'Prints & Imprints' is a multi-layered research into the Scheldt river and its history. The two works are a deep-dive into the river’s dynamic, the interaction between humanity and water, and traces of this relationship that can be found within soil and cartography.
One piece delves into the history of Saeftinghe, while the other explores the past of what is now known as the Galgenweel. Both are collections, of photographs or sediments gathered during fieldwork along the Scheldt, alongside interpretations of historical maps and soil profiles. Together, they offer a glimpse into the layered complexity and the ever-changing impressions and imprints of this river landscape.
This work was created as part of the Schelde Imaginaries program; a research initiative and exhibition centered on the Scheldt river in Antwerp organised and curated by Nina-Joy Thielemans and Niel de Vries.
